Samuel founded edtech startup New Pathway Education in Shanghai, China in 2009, which was acquired by global private equity firm CVC Capital Partners in December 2014. New Pathway Education was merged with CVC portfolio company EIC Education and subsequently, Sam served as CTO and Board Member of EIC, one of China's leading international education companies with 3500+ employees and operations in 27 cities in China. In May 2016, CVC led a sale of EIC Education to Chinese private equity firm NLD Investment LLP.
After moving to Seoul in 2016, Samuel founded NPX Capital, a global investment management firm focusing on venture capital and private equity. Samuel is a Partner of Primer, Korea’s leading startup accelerator, and he was also responsible for launching WeWork Labs Korea, which was WeWork Labs’ first international expansion. As Head of WeWork Labs Korea, Samuel and his team have been responsible for helping over 130 member companies with their growth.
Samuel is also actively involved as a director of the Hong Kong MIT Innovation Node and serves as a board member of the MIT Sandbox Funding Board. Sam received a BS in Mechanical Engineering and an MS in Materials Science and Engineering, both from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Brian joined the teraArk team in 2018. Before this, he started his education career in Korea in 2005. After spending seven years with Chungdahm Learning in management, training, curriculum development, and teaching, he started a language consulting company and developed and implemented his own oral proficiency testing platform for the OPIc test.
In 2016, Brian moved to Shanghai, China to take charge of training systems and project management at New Pathway Education, again designing and implementing a tech solution to help streamline training and HR for a merger between EIC’s 30+ centers and New Pathway’s.
Returning to Korea, Brian became a senior director and CTO at NP Equity Partners and assisted in managing three edtech portfolio companies. He eventually moved to Vietnam to expand his startup, Steamology, from which he and his co-founders made their latest exit. Brian graduated from Carleton University with a major in Computer Science.
Minyoung graduated from Seoul National University with a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering and rural systems engineering. She has been actively involved in SNUSV.net which is Seoul National University’s only startup community club.
Minyoung started her dream of being an entrepreneur working at Korean startup, Specup Ad, which provides online and offline education for conglomerates’ test-prep services. She built a team and spearheaded the English test-prep division.
After spending 2 years with Specup Ad, she joined a Korean agriculture startup, Poomasy, and then moved to India to explore India’s growth and startup ecosystem. She worked at TKN Advisors which is a cross-border investment advisor with a focus on India and stayed in Bengaluru for 6 months. With her wide experiences in many startups, she founded and started a child-caregivers matching platform called Modooai. After having run her own company, she decided to join NPX TeraArk to experience building and growing ventures from scratch in emerging markets.
